March 84G chassis 04

This is the car that was driven by Randy Lanier to win the 1984 IMSA Championship. It has just finished being totally restored.

The 84G was designed by Robin Herd and Adrian Newey to compete in the 1984 IMSA series. It has an aluminum honeycomb monocoque chassis, bolted to a semi-stressed engine. The bodywork is kevlar/carbon composite, and it has a ground effect under tray. It is powered by by a 5.7 litre Ryan Falconer Chevrolet V8, which is bolted to a Hewland 5 speed gearbox. This particular March was run by the Blue Thunder team of Randy Lanier. He shared the driving in most of the races with Bill Whittington, a former Le Mans winner. The odds of Lanier being champion in 84 were not good, they were competing against Porsche and Jaguar plus great drivers like Al Holbert, Derek Bell, John Paul Junior, Brian Redman, John Fitzpatrick and Peter Gregg. Astonishingly by the end of the season Randy had visited the winner's circle six times and become champion.

This is one of the most historically important March's with a fascinating history.
